Cooking and baking is something that I absolutely love to do. I am forever baking cakes and looking forward to dinner time so I can cook! This is something that I am keen to get Shaniah into. I feel that it is a skill that is very important.
Shaniah is forever demanding those character cake mixes when we do our food shop and although they are great the prices do add up and they never vary from the traditional cupcakes.
I was recently introduced to BKD, a company which produces a monthly subscription box for children aged 3+ called Mini Bakers Club. These boxes are filled to the brim with exciting activities as well as a baking project for your little ones to try out.
We received February’s through the post earlier in the week. Shaniah was super excited to receive something in the post with her name on it. Yes that is right! The boxes are personalised to your child!
Shaniah couldn’t wait to get stuck in and to be honest neither could I. This months box took a valentines theme and we had mixture, jam and a cookie cutter to make heart-shaped Jammy Dodgers, a craft project which was to make beautiful cupcake cases flowers and a booklet full of fun projects and games that also taught her things at the same time!
Everything we could possibly need was within this box which meant that an overly excited Shaniah was able to get stuck in straight away!
We started by making the Jammy Dodgers, Shaniah had been begging me for a few days to make some cakes with her so she was super happy to finally be doing that, we haven’t made biscuits of any sort yet so this was exciting for both of us. Shaniah was keen to take the lead, why not? It is her box after all!
We then had to put the dough in the fridge for 20 minutes which gave us the perfect opportunity to get cracking on the flowers. Shaniah absolutely loves anything crafty but unfortunately I am not the greatest at thinking up ideas of things to make thankfully BKD came to my rescue! Shaniah followed the instructions perfectly this really was a project that she absolutely enjoyed.
She put so much effort in to it and they turned out perfect. Full credit goes to BKD though for their easy to follow instructions, meaning the youngsters are able to follow them with ease.
It was then time to finish off our Jammy Dodgers! Again the instructions were easy to follow and Shaniah was able to do most of it by herself which meant she was super, super proud with the finished results. The finished results however weren’t the best because we forgot to keep an eye on the time! Oops. All’s not lost however because we also received a recipe sheet to make these from scratch – Including the jam! BKD really have thought of it all!
I am absolutely amazed by this Mini Bakers Club subscription box. Shaniah absolutely enjoyed every single activity and the amazing people at BKD really do have the youngsters in mind when they create these boxes with each box filled with STEAM based projects. I will definitely be signing up as this is THE perfect monthly gift for youngsters. Roll on March!
Subscriptions start from £8.99 a month +P&P.
