I am so glad to see the back of this party! Well, I say the party, it is more the party planning side to it that I am glad is over. It just seemed to go on. Oh and I didn’t factor in the fact that Shaniah seems to know and be friendly with everyone which meant that we had to give out THREE lots of invites as she remembered more people that just had to be there.
Shaniah has been mad about Disney for as long as I can remember, In particular, Shaniah has been madly in love with frozen since she was a toddler, I guess it was because she was a toddler when the Frozen craze began to peak. With this in mind, it was no surprise that she wanted to have a Disney themed party!
I love a good chance to host a party. I still hold such fond memories of my own childhood parties and that is something that I want for Shaniah as well.
I decided to do the catering myself as we had a couple of people with allergies and I just felt more comfortable knowing exactly what was inside the things I was serving. Whilst I was food prepping I sent my mum and Shaniah down to our local hair salon (Cuttin’um Palace, the best and most appropriate name EVER!) where she had her hair trimmed and styled into plaits just as Anna has.
When she came home we surprised her with a dress that was made just for her. Shaniah was so excited and I won’t lie, I was rather excited too! The dress turned out far better than I had imagined ( and I had rather high expectations!) She has already said that she is taking it to Disneyland with her later on in the year.
Shaniah chose to invite the whole of her class to the party, along with a handful from the other class in her year group that she has also become friendly with. It ended up being a much bigger party than anything I am used to hosting, before now it’s only ever been a few family members and friends with children the same age. I am, however, really pleased that I was able to get to know the parents and also put faces to names that Shaniah is always mentioning.
For the party entertainment, we hired a local disco company. I was so, so pleased with our choice and they really did make the day that bit more special and memorable. The children had a blast, and they even stayed to help us get a few rogue balloons down from the extremely high hall ceiling.
As it was primarily a disco party, we had a box full of glow sticks and accessories by the main entrance which was a massive hit with the youngsters.
I put together a buffet style lunch labelling the foods after certain Disney films. We labelled the pizza “I wanna be where the pizza’s are” after Ariel and the chicken nuggets “Hei-Hei nuggets after Moana.
Instead of handing out traditional plastic party bags we gave each child a personalised drawstring backpack filled with goodies like party popteenies for the girls and build your own racecars for the boys. We paired this with bubble wands and sweet cones. It was something so simple yet the bags were a hit with both parents and children.
A very special thank you to:
The lady who made the dress went above and beyond. As soon as I knew what kind of party I was going to do, I knew that Shaniah would be wearing a dress from Sparkle tutu’s studio. I have been looking at her designs on Instagram for a while and I knew that Shaniah just had to have one of her own. The lady very kindly offered to personalise the dress even more by putting Shaniah’s name on the ribbon!
These guys really made the party. They were absolutely incredible from the moment they arrived ’til the moment that they left. They made sure that the disco was how Shaniah wanted. They played music that was perfect for her age group and they even found time to play games with sweet rewards. They even brought along a candy floss machine which everyone enjoyed (even the adults!). They were amazing and kept everything running seamlessly.
Okay, so this cake was absolutely incredible! I don’t often think of supermarkets when it comes to special birthday cakes but while I was searching for inspiration I came across the Fairytale castle and instantly knew that that was what I wanted. Shaniah absolutely loved it – it tasted great too! I will never look at supermarket cakes in the same way.
These biscuits were incredible! They looked so good scattered around the birthday cake. The children instantly knew which princess was on each biscuit and they were gone in minutes. They definitely had the wow factor.
The lovely Emily of Cuttin’Um Palace has always been so welcoming to Shaniah. Shaniah loves having her hair trimmed and styled here. In Shaniah’s
These names really did make the party bags more special. Maria sent the names out super fast and every single one was perfect.
