A new year brings a new feature to my little corner of the internet. I have always loved being in the kitchen, Very stereotypical, I know! I think it also comes across here on my blog too as I regularly feature some of my favourite meals that the whole family enjoy, including my very fussy child.
I let the whole Friday Food part of my blog slip somewhat towards the end of 2018 but after a lovely few weeks away from the blog and social media to some extent, I am back and raring to go. Like I touched on earlier, I am bringing a new feature to my blog and adding to my food category which happens to be one of my most read ones. I thought I would start sharing with you my meal plans each week.
Meal planning was something that I started doing towards the end of last year (2018) when I realised that I was so disorganised we were popping to the local shop every day to get something for dinner even though we probably had something suitable at home. Now
we I meal plan (the rest just roll with it) on a Friday night and go out to do the weekly food shop on the Saturday. We typically go to Aldi as it is by far the cheapest and middle aisle aside, we don’t end impulse buying.
Anyway, that is enough of my rambling, on to week one of my meal plans for 2019!
Barbecue Beef Brisket with Paprika Wedges and Crunchy Slaw.
Let’s face it, the last meal anyone wants to eat any time soon is a roast right? A roast is usually our go to meal for a Sunday as it’s just convenient with Ryan arriving home late from his weekly fishing trip.
This is one meal that I love to do for my family as we have enough beef left over for us to use in our lunchboxes the following day.
Brisket isn’t one of the popular cuts of meat but I find that it has one of the nicest flavours and when cooked for a long period of time it becomes lovely and tender.
Finger foods/ party nibbles.
This year we have kindly been invited to Ryan’s parents for New Years Eve so I’d imagine we will return home with lovely full tummies. Knowing Shaniah however, she will no doubt ask for some “snacks” before bed so finger/buffet type foods will probably be on our cards.
Chicken Tikka Skewers with a side salad and Chipattis.
This is a meal that we hadn’t tried until recently, in fact it’s one that Shaniah hasn’t tried at all. When I was preparing the tikka paste last time I assumed that it was going to be too spicy for her, after all it does have two chillies blended within. Once the dish was cooked I realised that it wasn’t spicy at all and after Shaniah has tried some of mine she was asking for her own.
So here we are, January 1st enjoying tikka, the nations favourite right?
Chicken burger with chips, side salad and slaw.
This again, is one of our families favourite. It is such an easy and simple meal, yet you can change it every time by simply seasoning the chicken differently. I serve mine in a lovely Brioche bun which goes down well with even the fussiest of eaters.
Old El Paso Kit meal.
Shaniah is a firm lover of all things Old El Paso. She has even gone as far as to say that the aisle with the meal kits is her favourite aisle of the shop, even shops which have toys, that’s dedication. She’s taken on Pablo as her new nickname and requests a different dish each week although, the Garlic chicken and rice dish is her absolute favourite.
Fakeaway Friday – Pizza night.
In a bid to save yet more pennies we have given up on having so many takeaways, I mean we weren’t having them weekly but we were having them quite frequently and we were having meals that are easy enough to make ourselves at home for less, so that is what we do. We do it every Friday, switch up what kind of “takeaway” we fancy, make it at home hence the name “fakeaway” and round the evening off with a nice film or board game. Perfect family time all whilst saving us money at the same time.
