You are the bows from which your child as living arrows are sent forth – Kahlil Gibran.
Welcome back to another week of us linking up to the living arrows linky as hosted by Donna from What the Redhead said. Can you believe that tomorrow will be the first of august? Nope me neither! This year is going super fast, I reckon Usain Bolt is giving it a piggy back!
For this weeks living arrows our post has a kind of celebratory theme to it. As many of you may know we have been attempting the dreaded potty training which was taking a little longer than we had envisioned but no two children are the same. It was earlier this week when Ryan had a light bulb moment, he noticed that Shaniah knew she was going to go back in pull-ups when we had to go out or when it was bedtime so he simply said go cold turkey on the pull-ups and put her in underwear all day including when we go out. I paused for a minute and realised that yes, maybe this would work.
We stocked up on HUGGIES DryNites bed mats, endless amounts of underwear and leggings – she is practically living in leggings now as they’re quicker to remove when she gives us her 3 second wee warning!
The first day we did this she had a few accidents but she hated the wet feeling that she was left with because she wasn’t wearing a pull up that soaked it up – winning! Within a few hours she was learning to tell us when she needed to go yes there were a couple of times where she had given us literally no warning before the flood came but she’s a toddler playing, I mean there’s times when I am too engrossed in what i am doing to take a trip to the bathroom.
As the days went on her ability to tell us when she needed to go was getting better although we are starting to sound like broken records when it comes to repeatedly asking her if she needs to go, only to be met with a sharp no.
We took a trip to Tesco for our weekly shop and had a bed mat folded between her bottom and her car seat in case any accidents happen and to our amazement Shaniah had managed to go the entire time without a single accident! With new-found confidence that Shaniah is able to do this we took her to Cribbs to pick out a treat for overcoming such a hurdle and believe it or not she was accident free the entire time there too! We popped in to see Ryan’s parents on the way home then took a trip to Tesco to pick up something we had forgotten the day before and just as we were paying Shaniah went statue still and there beneath her feet was a wee puddle but one accident in 2 days out was nothing and we just reminded her that she needed to let us know when she needed to go.
So after going cold turkey we can finally say that the end is in sight and little one will soon be nappy free forever! Wahoo!
