“You’re the bows from which your child as living arrows are sent forth” – Kahlil Gibran.
What a week it’s been! A very scary one too, just as we were starting to come to terms with the horror that unfolded in Manchester we now have Saturday’s event’s in London to try and figure out although in this day and age we shouldn’t have to go through this, people should be able to walk around their hometown without fear – what has become of our world?
Anyway, on to this week’s living arrows…
It has been half term this week so there was no dreaded school run which gave us all a much needed rest. We decided to take a trip to our local shopping centre with both my mother and nan. Shaniah absolutely loves this place because there is a statue of a cow and we always have to say hello to it and give it a cuddle!
Later on in the week Grandad Malcolm came over with an early birthday present for Shaniah. She loves learning and role play so when he saw this chalkboard he just had to get it. It was an instant hit with Shaniah and she immediately decided to play schools, asking us what the letters were and then drawing pictures for us to guess. She was truly happy with her gift and loved the abacus – she even knew how to use it! The following morning she came in the living room with with her pretend heels and a necklace on saying “It’s school time” before coughing and then writing on the board! Shes got it down to a T.
The weekend saw us out and about finding the stuff needed to create Shaniah’s birthday cake. One shop we had to go to meant we had to drive past Cotswold Airport, Shaniah absolutely loves planes so this was a welcomed journey for her. A few weeks ago Uncle Ashley let her use his old binoculars and ever since she has taken them wherever we go in case we spot a plane and for once she was in luck. She started to get extremely hyper and looked through her binoculars (all be it the wrong way!) to take a closer look. is she the youngest plane spotter? possibly.
Shaniah’s achievement for this week is a massive game changer, we have gone cold turkey on the dummies!! We have struggled with getting her off of these and when we usually succeed I ended up giving in when she cried for them. Ryan however, decided to take matters into his own hands and put all the dummies out of reach of both Shaniah and myself! So no matter how much I wanted to give in I couldn’t. To our surprise, she didn’t even ask for it once, and bedtime was a breeze! She must have been ready to give them up for a while.
That’s it for this week, we have had sadness, celebrations and moment’s where I needed to lean on family members more than I usually would but overall this week has been a pretty amazing and full of milestones.
