Back To School Essentials

Starting school can be daunting, if not for your little one it certainly is for you! You wait months anxiously awaiting the letter to drop onto your doormat with the chosen school within. Praying that you get your first choice. Even when you find out you realise that that wasn’t your only worry, you now have to worry about getting the long list of essentials ready to gear up your baby for school. It isn’t easy and by god are you going to forget something, after all, you are only human.

Even if you do tick everything off the list there are a few things that you may need that never even made it onto the original list and that right there can really be a pain. I am going through the exact same thing, for this year Shaniah takes the big leap into school.

Here are a few of our favourite products we’ve got that we highly recommend.

Headlice Lotion

School

Yep, I know that this is something that you would rather not think about but it’s a given. Primary school aged children are hugging monsters, they are practically joined at the head and lice… Lice spread like wild-fire through the youngsters heads and before you know it you have a screaming child who is shouting obscenities at the comb. There are so many amazing head lice products out there, especially the Hedrin range.

Hedrin have a wide range of products that are designed to make the whole headlice scenario just that little bit bearable for both parent and child. Hedrin also have a special product that is designed to stop head lice from taking hold of your child’s hair after all, prevention is better than cure right?

Name tags

Nametags! Something that you have probably thought about but these ones from My Nametags are perfect and easy to use. They stick to almost anything and last the test of time. My daughter tried them out on her favourite Belle shoes because she “didn’t want to lose them in the shop” and they are still stuck firmly and haven’t worn away a good 3 months later!

Everyone knows that children tend to come home with someone else’s jumper or shoe and it can be really hard to get your belongings back, a real pain in the bottom! These name tags provide security and also look pretty awesome too. You can choose from a wide range of styles.

Cards

School

Everyone loves receiving cards right? Of course, it makes you feel special and that is very much the case for youngsters too! If your little one is anything like mine they will actually be extremely excited to receive cards through the post! Heck, Shaniah even goes crazy over junk mail because it gives her something to open.

A simple card handed to them over breakfast on their first day of school could mean the world to a child that is a little bit anxious, show them how proud you are of their big milestone and have something for the memory box at the same time!

Amongst Hallmarks wide range of cards they also have a lovely selection of “1st Day at School” cards . Perfect for showing your little one just how proud you are!

Learning books.

book arty words

As a parent we try our hardest to make sure that our little ones are as ready as they possibly can be. Over the summer holidays we’ve been working through Jolly phonics books and practising our letters. Although Shaniah enjoyed this she did get a little bit bored with just writing letters.

That’s where this Arty Mouse book came to our rescue, It’s filled from cover to cover with fun learning pages although Shaniah think’s she’s just helping out the characters by drawing bits to homes or simply going over dots to complete the names of people she is actually learning. Learning in a fun way. I love how this book is personalised with her name too meaning that she can point it out on every page which is perfect for when she needs to find her name at school.

Thermometer.

One thing that may seem obvious to some is a thermometer.  The amount of bugs children come home with is abaolutely crazy. There are many thermometers out there on the market. I personally have the Miniland thermometer which can take the temperature from either the ear or the forehead. You also have the option to check heart rate too. It’s small and came in a carry bag which is perfect for trips away I also love how it speaks the temperature and stores it.

Water Bottle.

Learning can be thirsty work. Especially during the hotter weather your little ones certainly need to keep their hydration levels up. There are many bottles out there ranging in price but the two that I absolutely love are these. The bottle on the right is from Smiggle, we absolutely love the products that we purchase from them. My brother is still using the interactive football pencil-case which I bought for him a few years ago, yes. It really is going strong. I am more than happy to pay that little bit extra for better quality and that is certainly something that Smiggle have.

The bottle on the left is Shaniah’s favourite! A special gift from the amazing people at giftpup. Gift pup has a wide range of quality personalised products  Perfect for gifting to your youngsters on their first day back at school, if they don’t discover them beforehand. Shaniah found her bottle and has been using it every day since, even taking it with her on her recent fishing trip!  The bottle is durable, doesn’t leak and features a screw top, secure drinking cap and hand carabiner clip this water bottle has a generous 600ml capacity which is more than enough to last through the school day.

Stationary.

Last but certainly not least. Stationary. Shaniah and I are a massive fan of stationary and love nothing more than to pop down to our local Smiggle and over stationary shops and ponder at their vast array of products. Shaniah has recently grown to love all things scented and Smiggle have got that covered in the most stylish of ways. These highlighters are utterly incredible, I want some for myself!
